The Texas Department of Public Safety, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Service, requests the purchase of semi-portable commercial motor vehicle (CMV) weighing scales as a necessary tool to enhance roadway safety, protect infrastructure, and improve enforcement effectiveness. These scales provide Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (CVE) personnel with the capability to accurately identify overweight and improperly loaded CMVs at roadside locations where fixed weigh stations or permanent scales are unavailable or impractical. Operating overweight vehicles significantly increases the risk of crashes. Semi-portable scales enable enforcement personnel to detect unsafe vehicle weights and axle load distributions before they lead to mechanical failures and collisions.
